Meet Jo & Julie

We built PopUp Rhody to help folks discover creative, artisanal, and quirky events across Rhode Island. Our state is filled with amazing people doing amazing things. PopUp Rhody makes it easy to connect with friends at art galleries, street fairs, bands, pop ups, and so much more.

Put simply, if you like marketplaces, breweries, and a really good tomato, you’ve come to the right place.

We met on the first day of Middle School, both a little nervous and super excited. We were pretty awkward, kindred 12-year olds, and quickly became inseparable – we were called to the principal’s office for tying our shoes together!

Our sleepovers were notoriously loud and giggly, and drove our parents up the wall. Who knew falling into a creek could create such delight!

We talked about absolutely everything, and as our friendship deepened we decided that if we could just put our two brains together, we’d make one kick-ass human.

Years flew, we traveled, then each married, had kids, and settled on opposite sides of the country.

Just when Jo followed her dream to create her own start-up, the pandemic hit. It seemed the perfect time to test the old “one kick-ass brain” hypothesis, so we joined forces.

Through a couple of pivots, we’re discovering what helps people connect. We’ve heard loud and clear, “If it’s on my calendar I’ll be there!”

So, we’re building this local calendar of quirky, independent, fun events because we believe deeply in the power of connecting people and in supporting the local creatives and vendors right here in our community.
