  • 2 hours

On Monday, June 19, 2023 Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee signed legislation (2023-S 0444A, 2023-H 5380A) to establish Juneteenth National Freedom Day as an official state holiday in Rhode Island beginning in 2024.

The Rhode Island Black Film Festival presents The Price of Admission: A Story about Rhode Island Black Baseball, 1900-1932.

Elmcrest Films LLC Production. Price of Admission tells a story about baseball, power, money and the black community from the early 1900’s through The Jazz Age and the Great Depression of the 1930’s. It is an epic tale about two nearly forgotten men, Arthur James “Daddy” Black and Daniel “Big Dan” Whitehead, who made sports history in Rhode Island and broke barriers while doing so. This film brings their story into the light for the first time. It showcases an aspect of black community life in Rhode Island that has waited until now to be told in film. Price of Admission Director Fran Leaze, Jr. will discuss his film during a Question and Answer period. There are food trucks and beverages available in the Park.

SCREENING IS FREE. Donations are welcomed
