Bandleader and bassist Kweku Aggrey composes music in the Black-American musical tradition that celebrates the rich history of black stories and black storytelling. In this performance, he will lead an ensemble performance of his original works. Together, the ensemble produces a sound that features elements of jazz improvisation across soul, R&B, highlife, and hip-hop influences.
The ensemble will include Marcus Grant on drums, Alexandria DeWalt on vocals/flute, Camila Cortina on piano, Noah Campbell on saxophone, Geraldo Marshall on trumpet, and Kweku Aggrey on bass.
These highly acclaimed musicians collectively boast a resume decorated with the names of local jazz staples including Dave Zinno, Leland Baker, and John Allmark, as well as notable artists beyond the Providence scene such as Jason Moran, Solange Knowles, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Danillo Perez.
