Ordinary Affects is a collective of composer-performers that workshop, explore, and commission contemporary experimental music. Members include Morgan Evans-Weiler, violin; J. P. A. Falzone, piano/vibraphone; Laura Cetilia, cello; and Jordan Dykstra, viola.
The concert will feature new works composed by the ensemble members that draw upon varied sources of inspiration such as number theory, alternative tuning, and the distinction between the musical notion of “rest” from a pause or silence.
Ordinary Affects foreground the act of listening as the central aspect of musical experience by using an experimental approach. The combination of systematic and chance elements works towards creating a euphonious and perhaps even contemplative or meditative acoustic environment that favors close listening. In recent years, Ordinary Affects have commissioned and premiered works by such composers as Christian Wolff, Alvin Lucier, Jürg Frey, and Eva-Maria Houben, among others.
Seating will be provided, and throughout the performance the public are invited to move about the gallery as they wish.
