This month, School One's Artist Talks series features, Monica Shinn, a celebrated artist known for her moving and striking work. Shinn’s paintings describe her neighborhood, bits and pieces of daily life in Providence, and other places. She composes as a colorist, pushing depth and dimension with the force of color rather than traditional time perspective. Her drawings tend more toward reality than realism, and her spare works on paper are often achingly stark and true. Shinn’s images explore the loneliness and awkwardness of humans being together.
