For this event, Community MusicWorks is thrilled to welcome scholar, writer, and musician Jeremy Eichler, whose recent award-winning book Time’s Echo makes an eloquent case for the role of music as memory-bearer for culture. The evening’s program will include a presentation by Jeremy followed by a MusicWorks Collective performance of Richard Strauss’s late masterpiece Metamorphosen.
Duke Robillard has carved out one of the Blues' most illustrious legacies. He founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in 1967. He replaced Jimmie Vaughan in The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He recorded on Dylan’s “Time Out Of Mind” and later toured with him. He also has toured with Tom Waits and Robert Gordon. Duke's prolificity has included producing albums by Joe Louis Walker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Jay McShann, and Otis Clay. Another highlight of Duke’s is recording two collaborations with Herb Ellis.
One way or another, Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. String Power began in 2007 in Brooklyn. This is the second performance of the new New England version! We had a great show back in October and I'm excited to do it again. I'll have some new repertoire along with some of our "hits" from over the years. We play my originals and arrangements of disco, country, thrash metal, jazz, Arabic, Greek, Polish, Klezmer and more. It should be a fun way to ring in the new year, and maybe work out some feelings....
